Thanked: 116Looking for informations on L Pelleray razors
Hi,
I am looking for informations on "Leon Pelleray - Paris" razors, especially the "Le Précieux Suédois No 47" model. I would especially be looking for an approximate date of manufacture. Up to now, I have only found that "Leon Pelleray" was a cosmetics shop/manufacture founded in 1829 in Paris.
The construction of that razor is a bit strange, it looks like a blade made with a specific alloy was wedged into a different metal spine. I would venture a guess and say the blade is Swedish steel (which would explain the name).
I will attach pictures of the razor as soon as the digital camera batteries are charged.

Welcome to SRP.
Yes, pictures will be helpful. Is there any stamp on the blade?
It was very popularly at mid 19 th century - beginning of 20 th in France to make some cutlery especially for trading houses (Leclercq, A Boulogne).
The construction isn't strange, it's frameback, popular construction in France at that time.
I think here , you can find some similar razors.Last edited by manah; 09-20-2009 at 10:06 PM.

Thanked: 116Yes, the first picture in that thread could be its clone. I'll have learned something tonight
The only stamps are "LE PRECIEUX SUEDOIS" on the blade itself and "LEON PELLERAY PARIS" on the tang.

Thanked: 116Sorry for the bad quality pics, I had to take those with my mobile phone.
The blade could do with some more TLC, which I'll try to provide as soon as possible.
The razor came in a reconstructed shaving kit with two French paddle strops, two brushes and a talcum shaker.
