Rolls Razor
I don't know if there are any of you that have and use a Rolls Razor. I have a couple of these and in reading through the instructions for honing and stopping it says to move the handle back and forth relatively quickly. What that does is cause the blade to slap on the stone or strop. I have done this and it seems to work but was just wondering if anyone else with more experience has followed the same instructions and if they hurt the blade any. Thanks for your input. jmsbcknr

My father-in-law used a rolls. I never saw it but he described the stropping process and he did it very rapidly. Said he got great service from it for years.

Thanked: 3The instructions with my Mark II Rolls says that you should slowly work the handle so that the blade will not slap the hone.
IT says to use the handle briskly on the strop.

I've got a couple of the Rolls Razors stuck back in my collection, never tried to use them tho.
Have you guys seen the Valet Auto-Strops? They were safety razors (single edge) that you came with a small leather strop. I've got a couple of those as well, but like the Rolls I never tried them out.

Thanked: 7After reading this thread I was prompted to pull my rolls out of the closet. It always gave ok shaves, but this time I honed it up on the norton and chinese 12k. Also replaced the strop leather with some scrap I had laying around. It's a great shaver! Much better than I remembered it being.

A friend just left my office who uses a Rolls daily. He showed me the honing/stropping process. It appears that as long as you have tightened the mechanism and use a smooth motion that you can do no damage. It is noisy process.
