Default Finally got me a stainless!

ANTIQUE HESS MARBELIZED 'FORTY TWO' STRAIGHT RAZOR - eBay (item 170389597917 end time Oct-04-09 18:15:49 PDT)

Finally! That took **** near forever. And compared to $100+ for the others I've seen (Friodurs, NOS, current production, I don't think I did too badly.)

Congrats. Hess razors are, I hear, very nice razors (I know JoeD can speak to that). I agree that you didn't do bad for the money either (though with Friodors, you're paying for the name, size, and usually worked backs).

Yeah. I know Friodurs command that price because of size and worked back- trouble is even the 5/8's ones I was after command a $100 price tag... Plus I'd go cheap over worked spine anyday, and if you check my sig, smaller is better. (except Sheffield wedges, which I view as novelties lol) I dunno. This is one of the razor purchases I am truly happy with though I'll really have to wait for honing to find out for sure.

If I could find a 50 1/2 with the JA Henckels gold wash on the blade, I would shell out. But I can't seem to find one... I missed the one VB had...

You'll like the Hess 42 once it's honed up. CarrieM has a 42 and I have a couple of 44s and all are great shavers. I have found that, when honing, going from the 4k straight to the Escher works best for me on all of my stainless blades. Results may not be the same for you but it's worth a try. Stainless is a 'gummy' metal which can cause honing issues.

    Good luck! Nice blade!
