    Default New Henckels?

Okay so while playing on the computer at work I came across this site that appears to sell a new J.A. Henckels straight razor.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Straight Razor - Zwilling J.A. Henckels

I was under the impression that Henckels didn't make razors anymore. Was I mistaken or is this a new thing?

They've been available for years. I bought a 6/8 Friodur about three years ago. Also, Nordstroms (or was it Macys?) carried them for awhile.

Do you know who makes these new Henckels razors? Does Henckels manufacture these themselves, or are the contracted out to somebody else?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

My understanding is that most of these are new old stock or regrinds. A large cache was discovered in a warehouse somewhere. A bunch of finished and unfinished Henckels blades. They are being finish ground by another razorsmith and then sold. There are a lot of them around, and all stainless. shavingshop.com has a bunch of them in 7/8 and 8/8 in various blade styles. I have one in 8/8 spanish point with a worked spine. Very nice shaving razor. They take a bit more work to hone but once set, they go a long way between honing's.

I think the ones he is talking about are different from the NOS stash that some mystery grinder is grinding into 7/8 and 8/8s decorated spine monsters. These are new production 5/8 or so, like SRD was selling, not like shavingshop is selling. But I have no knowledge beyond that.

The ones I was talking about were the new ones, not the 7/8 and 8/8 regrinds. I've got the one 6/8 Friodur that is the new production razor (wife got it for me for our anniversary several years ago) and also have several of the shavingshop regrinds.

My suspicion is that Dovo is making the new Friodurs but I really don't know for certain. Mine came in a metallic tin like Dovo uses, but that may not mean anything since Dovo probably buys the tin from somebody else anyway.

My "new Friodur" is an excellent shaver FWIW. Others that have bought them haven't had such good luck, though I haven't heard of any of them actually sucking or anything like that.

New ones vs. "regrinds"? Who invented the term "regrind"? How do you think new razors are produced?

I spoke with Henckels on the phone the other day. They have changed all their men's grooming products over to the Tweezerman brand name, and they have discontinued razor production, as of a couple years ago. I would assume that because not many people buy straight razors any more, these are NOS that is slowly being sold off.
