    Default $20 dollar find

I just bought this JA Henckels at a local antique shop for $20 bucks. The pics below are the condition in which I got it in not more than an hour ago. While I'm personally proud of the find i want to know the best way to clean up the brass without using a mild abrasive that might scuff the scales.I'm not planning on shaving with this but I do want to make it look good.Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Polish and elbow grease will shine up that brass.

Any particular kind of polish.I don't want to mess this razor up,by making a bad decision on a product that may make make it worse down the road.

Most here recommend MAAS polish, but I like Simichrome from the local Harley shop. With the Simichrome, you can use it to polish the inlays as well as the scales and they'll both shine right up

Default Preliminary polish to the 20 dollar find

Decided to try a little Mothers polish says it don't scratch metal surfaces. The bolsters that I thought were brass aren't they may be stainless or nickel but definetly not brass. This is just 30 -45 mins of trying to polish by hand the best I can

I feel compelled to say that not trying to shave with that razor is a mistake. Henckels are great shavers and the blade doesn't look too bad from the pics you posted. There is some hone wear, and the blade will have a patina look to it, but I think you'd really love it once cleaned up and honed. You never know, but if it were me I wouldn't resign that one to the shelf yet.

Not to disagree about not shaving with the razor,I just recently started DE shaving and haven't quite got it down good yet,but I like these as collectibles\daily shavers if I graduate.I don't mean shave ready because I don't have a strop ,hone or any thing else neccessary for that. It's just growing up my Dad always collected, traded, gambled for knives and has a rather large collection, but I appreciate the quality, construction, and the beauty that some of these razors have.

Well, if you are ever interested, I live in charlotte and I spend many a weekend in Hickory and I wouldn't mind helping with any part of your razor journey
