    Default Hen & Rooster

    This auction

sells Hen & Rooster razor. I have seen current TI razors with the Hen & Rooster wash. The auctioned one says Solingen Germany, but on the shank interestingly enough it says Spain...
Wondering if anyone knows about the history of this line?

The real hen and Rooster is marked bertram and it goes back to the 1800s and was a very small knife maker making extremely high quality stuff. None better. In the 1970s they were bought by AG Russell Knives who used them to make knives for his brands and some under the hen and Rooster still marked Bertram. The company went bankrupt in the 1970s and the factory was sold at auction. Klass bought the name and made hen and Rooster for quite some time but all the workers and machines were gone so the quality suffered. Klass eventually sold the name to frost Cutlery who owns it now. I'm told the offerings in the 1990s have been made by Dovo but the current stuff I don't know where its made.

I saw one of those with something buffed out of the tang- but this was still faintly visible "--stan" and I have since never thought about them for fear they might be pakistani.

No... the box says solingen. No where on the blade does it say solingen. I will look for the old thread.

    Here:http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ani-steel.html

I looked again, and it clearly says SPAIN on the particular one you are looking at, which is not Solingen...

Look here: Hen & Rooster - The World's Finest Cutlery since 1845

On the box it may say Solingen but if you read well they come from Toledo, a Spanish town renowned for its blacksmiths.
