cleaning question
I had some extra time today and decided to polish my razors, they came out pretty good except how the heck do you get the pivot area really clean! there is a buildup of gunk between the scales and blade by the pin but how do you get it out without taking the scales off? I tried flushing it out with some light weight oil and just worked the blade back and forth, seemed to get most of it but what else can it do? thanks

Try using some dental floss and a cleaner/polisher with it.
That sould do it.

I've also used lightweight (real) pipe cleaners with polish. Not the polyester craft ones, mind you- the real, absorbent deal.
Hmm. Time for a bowl of Va/Per...

Thanked: 199Good idea! And the Va/Per sounds good as well...I've got a ton of Esoterica Dorchester that may need to be paid a visit soon...GOD I love perique...
Anyway, I digress. The dental floss is a great idea too. maybe the "fuzzy" kind would work better than the others if you can find it.

I normally use dental floss for such work, but I found one particular dental floss that looks as it was designed to clean the dirt around the pin. It's Thornton 3 in 1 floss (Thornton 3in1 floss - From the inventors and original manufacturers of Superfloss.). It has a nice spongy filament brush which I load with the polish compound when I clean my pins. For my teeth I use the floss without the polishing compound.

Thanked: 51I have tried dental floss and found it to be too slick. I went to my wifes knitting basket and cut a piece of yarn. the yarn is strong but it it is thin and also fuzzy. I found it works real well with some MASS on it followed by a clean piece.
