    Default Razors to look for

I wanted to try and get a list of rare razors that newbie's should try and keep there eyes open for in one place. The ones that if you see at antique shops are definite buys.

If you're looking for collector's items as well as shavers your dubl ducks, C-Mons, Fillys and others are hot right now. If you want to build a rotation of good shavers there are many obscure Solingen makers that shave great.

Condition is my main criteria ... unless you're into restoration..... but even then full bladed razors with minimum hone wear and undamaged scales are what I look for.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Hm, rare razors... off the top of my head the only ones I can think of are certain Dubl Ducks and those crazy swayback Case razors.. The whole idea of "models" is a newer concept (relatively speaking), so older blades didn't have distinguishing names. As such, it's the styleistic aspects of many vintage razors that set them apart (at least for Sheffield blades). Really, I think the only way to determine what's rare is to see a lot of razors and figure out what you're not seeing. But that's not to say that getting rare razors is necessairly a good thing. For example, what if I decided to make my own straight razors, but only made 5. They'd be rare, but I don't know a thing about making razors, so they'd not be of any value. Might seem silly with a modern example, but what if I did that a hundred or two hundred years age?

Better to learn whan razors are good and buy those.

One make to look out for is Le Coultre. They made a frameback razor that came with a set of removable blades. They're marvellous shavers.
