Art of Shaving TI Blade???
Hello,
I am curious how many here have experience with The Art of Shaving razors which are made by TI? At 135.00 this seems like a good priced TI blade, can anyone attest to the quality? I have heard these blades are a little difficult to hone? Cane anyone confirm this?
Cheers,
Josh

All the ones I have seen so far are the new TI forging and I personally like them. Some don't care so much. I never had any problems honing any of TI's new forging or old ones for that matter. They take a very nice edge and shave extremely well.
Just stay way from the steel handled version they sell. Those are just plain dangerous to shave with due to the balance being completely off and chances are you will nick your strop.

Thanked: 190You are better off buying TI from the vendors listed on SRP. Better pricing for what you get. I don't know how long AOS can stay in business when you can get it all on line and from people who speak from experience.
The TI I may consider down the road is the Le Grelot, but feel it may not stand up to the competition in my rotation and end up getting sold on SRP.

Thanked: 37I have an AOS TI. I got the top end horn scaled razor for $110 + tax. The store had been open for less than a week and may have been still unorganized. All I know is I got a ridiculous deal.
As for the quality of these blades...Exquisite. They are a nice 5/8 extra hollow. They take and hold an edge very nicely. They respond well to both pastes and stones. At $135 you will get a very nice no frills razor. If you are considering dropping $290 for the top end I would say forget about it and go get a custom for just a bit more.
In short I would say very nice blade but a very uninspiring price.

My very first straight razor was a stainless steel scaled TI from AOS. Max is correct about the balance on it being difficult to work with. But since it was my first blade I didn't know any better and adapted well. Later I decided I didn't like full hollow or 5/8 so I let it go to a deserving home in Europe.
But that particular AOS blade was the second one from them. The original one was fine (and came very shave ready) but after a while I had to touch it up on the hone. The instant I laid it on the stone I saw that the blade itself was slightly bent! Nothing radical but just enough that I'd have had to roll the blade as I honed it. I figured that since it was a new TI that the blade should not be bent already - so I called the store and they replaced it immediately at no cost. The replacement was new as well and more importantly was dead-on straight and even. So my final analysis is that the AOS TIs are good shavers, the SS scaled ones are heavy but can be adapted to use, but make sure you get a blade that's not bent. Should you get a problem blade don't hesitate to call ANY store of theirs to get it replaced.

Thanked: 151I have never used an AOS razor, but have tried their shaving soap and I think its great, but way over priced. I have however, honed a TI and have noticed some being bent as said earlier. I have a card in 2 AOS stores here in NY for honing because i could use the extra dough, but some can be unusual. As for their prices, their brushes and stands are not far from Classic or SRD. Their razors actually aren't too far off price wise either. While I think you can get a better razor here in the classifieds than you can buy new anywhere, do not say the AOS people have no experience, because one person their I talked to was very knowledgeable and uses straights so don't think you have to go to SRD or Classic for experience because that is unfair. AOS just needs more strop options, and to reconsider their goals of profit because despite what is said here, straights cost a lot up front to the people most willing to try it.
I hope not to offend anyone at SRD or Classic as I buy from them and their prices on Soap and other items are far cheaper. They also sell top quality items and are very easy to deal with. I just don't want a new person to think they cant get into straights via AOS because at least there they can see what they get unlike the other online shops and to me, that is enough reason to avoid many online shops.
Just my two cents.

Thanked: 190TI Le Grelot 6/8 blackhorn scale
The current rotation:
Dovo Best Class 5/8
Dovo No. 55 7/8
Robert Williams 7/8
Dovo Tortoise 5/8
I shave every two days and will rotate in one of my disposable straight blades as my number 5 and I have three diff brands to choose from.
I am thinking my next straight will be a 7/8 wedge. But I am curious to hear from anyone who has one of the TI's "Silverwing"
