Well, they start on the small side and this one looks like frowning quite a bit so it'll end up even smaller. When you factor in the cost of fixing it it may not be as good of a deal as you might think it was...

First- you're very lucky I forgot to bid on that one. Second- the frown shouldn't be a problem, as you already have to have a chip at the heel honed out (see heel photo). I believe its a 5/8 so it'll probably end up 9/16, maybe 4/8 if you're unlucky. That's no problem though (I like em small, if you don't want it, PM me to let me know lol we'll work something out... and that is a serious standing offer- see my sig lol). Finally, the tarnish on the "Forty Two" should polish off, as should the pins. The blade... it won't stay pretty. You'll be adding some hone wear and if you polish the rust you'll lose the gold...

All that said, JoeD and CarrieM have a few Hess's and they love em, I have a Hess 42 and I love it, and they generally have a good reputation.
I just want to add that these puppies are absolute squeegees if honed right. My 42 went straight to daily shaver. No questions.

Well, I don't know. The frown could just be a bad picture. The toe and the heel appear darker than the center of the edge, so the frown could just be an illusion. Clean 'er up. Hone 'er up. Shave. Then tell Khaos that he was right about the Hess 42 and that he can't have this one (make sure to laugh maniacally when you do).

+1. I do not think that blade has a frown, it is just a play of shadow or color.
I like my 42 a lot, congrats for a nice catch!

I appreciate all the comments. I guess the only way I will really know is to have the razor in hand. Hopefully another day or two. I think I will clean it up then send it out to a pro to be honed. I will try to post some pics of it also.
