Thanked: 398Difference between Dovo Best Quality and Tortoise
Hey guys,
I'm considering buying the Best Quality. Is there a big difference between the Best Quality and the Tortoise? Is it worth the extra money?
thanks!

Thanked: 2591More craftsman ship and better scale maerial in the Best Quality Tortoise, the steel is probably the same. I would ask Lynn/Don about the steel though.

Personally, I love the looks of the tortoise. Just enough ornament without seeming frilly, and much more interesting than the Best Quality. I've also heard that the tortoise are much better made. I would get one myself except I really don't like round points.

Thanked: 121I have two tortoise and one Best, all 5/8 and round point. I'd say the only difference is the ornamentation. The Best is the best shaver of the group at the present moment, but I think a little attention from my hones would probably change that. For me, the beauty of the razor is in how it performs, and if I had it to do over again I'd probably forego the extra expense and get the Best.

I do recall reading somewhere that all the carbon steel Dovo's use the same steel. As to whether one model has better craftsmanship than another... I think you'll only find the normal variations from one mass produced razor to another regardless of which model you look at.

Thanked: 234I have a Dovo 'Best quality' that I use as a travel razor and, to give it it's due, it's a cracking razor and holds an edge well.

Dups,
The Best gives a superb shave; it was my first straight I bought when I got back onto straight shaving, and it remains one of my favourites.
I have got the Tortoise, too, but if you are on a budget, you won't go wrong with the Best
'Best' regards

I would be real surprised if the blades were fundamentally different, as these are mass produced-- I think the difference is in the etching, goldleaf, and scales.
So the extra money is about how the razor looks, vs. the quality of the blade.
Just a note on the goldwash-- it is very thin and will eventually wear off unless you are careful-- esp. if you ever polish the blade with metal polish, so be careful about that.
I prefer a shiny blade vs. goldwash, so I just polish away...(I have the Dovo with ebony scales)

Thanked: 398Just as an update, I just bought two razors, a strop, cr0 and some lapping film.
I got this one from Seraphim Stainless 11/16 worked back with MOP scales - Badger & Blade (sorry if this isn't allowed) and a Electric Cutlery razor from the classifieds here. I can't wait to receive them! I'm also waiting for my first puck of Tabac soap. Thanks for all the comments guys!
