looking for ideas for storage
Hi. I am wondering what to do to store my small (less than a dozen) collection of straights. Would appreciate any ideas.

A few of us have used display cases and mounted some hooks inside.Works well and keeps humidity from the shower away from your blades.I still oil lightly anyway. Here's mine:

Another possibility is to get a razor roll. There are plenty of places that make them in everything from Denim to Leather, holding from 4 to 20+ razors. Just make sure you oil (I use baby oil) your blades before storing them for a long time.

I use silverware trays for some of them. Fits in a drawer and keeps them separate. Good for a small assortment. Here is an example.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Pen cases or pen rolls can work, as can travel humidors. Other possibilityes are toothbrush stands, pipe stands (the kind of pipes you smoke) or test tube racks. I have a lock box that I lay my largest blades in and razors rolls for (most of) my smaller blades.
While nice display cases and fancy razor rolls can work, I personally wouldn't shell out the money for something like a TI roll or case. Yes, they are nice, but I'd rather spend my money on the actual razors than something to hold them.

Thanked: 125I made a "Dehumidor" out of a cigar humidor that I picked up off of eBay. I posted a simple thread in the workshop awhile back explaining what I did. It works for me.

Thanked: 0I'm a newbie so this might be a little obvious...but while razor hunting in antique stores I c came across a barbers case for holding straight razors. it came with a bunch of razors for 145 bucks. Unfortunately I don't have the money to pick it up at the moment...maybe sometime soon. Anyway it was a small portable case that was designed to carry about 20 razors. It looked like a box you'd see at a barber shop or something. I would recommend hitting up your local antique malls. I've seen barbers brushes, strops, razors...all sorts of paraphanalia. Good luck

I've got one of those for 15 razors. There are two things I don't like about it. First, mine has vertical slots that don't hold the razor firmly, so they move around a bit when you move the case. Sticking some foam into the lid of the case fixed that. Second, they don't fit large razors and the slots are different sizes, so sometimes I have to play musical chairs to get everything in. These points may be unique to my box, but something to keep in mind. Test fitting razors is always a good idea.
