    Smile Newbie

I am new here. This is not my first post but I think I put the first one in the wrong place since I can't find it now.
I am a 63 year old guy who has been shaving with a straight for about 12 years or so. I started with a Majic razor that uses blades and quickly decided I needed a real one which i found when I mentioned it to my barber. He collects them. He gave me one with a broken handle. I am a knife make so I made a handle for it out of micarta and he showed me how to sharpen it. Not like sharpening a knife for sure. I have a bunch of stones ranging from coarse to really slick, but since I bought them at yard sales and flea markets, I have no Idea what grit they are. But I know which order they go in eccept for two of them. One is black and one is light brown. They both feel the same. Almost glass smooth. I am new but I am able to put an edge on them that will pass the HHT after I sharpen them and strop them on a basswood block loaded with green rouge and then on my homemade strop. I love shaving with them and am really pleased to find this forum. I thought I must be excentric or something till now. I see there are many of us. Thanks for being here Guys. Mack

    Welcome to SRP, Mackie.

If you post some photos of your stones there's a good chance someone might be able to tell you a bit more about them.

The same goes for your razor too actually, we're a nosy lot on here.
