Thanked: 2Need a new razor
I am planning to buy a new razor from Straight Razor Designs, and I need some input. Do you think there is much difference between the Dovo Best Quality, the Dovo Bismarck and the Boker King Cutter. I am wondering about the best edge, honability and edge retention. I am not looking to save money, just not waste any. This razor will also be my benchmark for honing my other razors. Thanks

They are all great razors. I doubt you'll notice much difference in the edges they take or how well they retain the edges; the differences are mainly cosmetic and size/shape - both are a matter of preference.

Thanked: 21You cannot go wrong with a Best Quality Dovo. I have one, and it is one of my favorite razors. I liked my Best Quality better than any of the more expensive Dovos that I have bought and sold. For around $70 you can get a new one from SRD with lifetime honing from Lynn. That is an amazing value. That means you get a benchmark not just now, but into the future very, very cheaply.

McFly49,
You chose wisely
The Dovo Best was the first razor I bought when I got back into straight shaving. Now with some 26 razors in my stable, it is still the one I use the most !
In addition to giving me lovely shaves, I am really impressed at how easy it is to maintain the edge by those new to straight shaving; the blade responds really well to touch ups on CrOx; I have managed to repair a few 'dings' I have accidently put on it by this method
Most importantly, have fun and enjoy your shaves !
Best regards
Russ

Thanked: 2I just ordered the Dovo Best, and a Truefitt & Hill shaving cream and balm sampler for $86 shipped. Now all I have to do is wait, and waiting sucks.

Up until recently my three best shavers were very very plain blades. Nothing wrong wtih being no-frills.
