Does anyone know how old this razor is?
I picked up a frederick reynolds razor. The image on the blade is of george washington. It says washington champion of lirberty. Unfortunitaly some one sanded a spot in the middle of washington. Just wondering if anyone has more info on this razor?
Thanks Rene

If it doesn't have 'England' stamped on the tang, only Sheffield it is before 1881 IIRC when a treaty came into effect requiring country of origin stamps on cutlery. I would bet 1850s but I don't know. Too bad about the sanding.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Yea! Its a light etching as it is. The blade only says sheffield. Other than that no rush, a little staining, Im sure that can clean up. Scales have some chips. I hope to change them. There is some hone wear but thats to be expected for the age.

To each his own but I leave original scales as is if they are only chipped and the pivot is good. Even if the other end has a stable crack. I have a thing about original scales on old Sheffields. YMMV.
