    Default Bergischer-Lowe, Revisted.

Well I've only been using a straight razor a couple of months now and I'm up to about 90 to 95% of getting the shave completed using only a straight. My whiskers feel like their made from stainless steel wire.

Anyway, I started out using a new 6/8 "Dovo Special" from SRD, which by the way shaves great. I like the size and heft of this razor, it just feels right.

I at the same time purchased a Dovo Bergischer Lowe from Vintage Blades. At the time I had only shaved with it twice. The shaves were OK feeling to this newbe but the razor just felt, and still does, very petite. As you know this is listed as a 5/8 blade and with all of the file work done on the spine it feels really light. Sure wish Dovo would make this razor in 6/8 size. Well this past week I decided to give it another try. I did 10 laps on a paddle strop treated with chromium oxide and then 100 laps on the smooth leather. WOW, this BL plowed through my whiskers with no effort at all.

Some of you advised me to set it aside and after a while give it another try. Sound advice. I'm glad I did. Still wish it was bigger though.

If it was bigger it wouldn't be a Bergisher Lowe it would be a biggisher lowe. Either way its a great shaver.

The Bergischer Löwe is indeed a great razor. Its hollow grind makes it a bit tricky for a beginner, I'd say. I still like mine a lot (see review section). Incidentally, I'm not sure it would shave as it does (good or bad, depending on your liking of flexible blades) if it were bigger.

    Regards,
    Robin

Points well taken. I shaved with it again today and I'm beginning to like it more. Just might have to keep it around.
