i shouldnt buy another razor yet but i might puchase one as a gift for someone. i'm really starting to see that this can be an addiction!!!!

This is the only one I've had experience of (very good experience too) but there are others that I'll let those who can say more about them chip in with.

Glen (GsSixGun) sells restored razors on his website; the link is in his sig. Brad (Undream) sells restored, shave ready razors on ebay (I think his username is Undream there too, but shoot him a PM to be sure). SRD used to sell restored razors, but it seems they don't anymore. I've got my website, but I wouldn't call the razors "restored" - just shave ready. I don't know of any others off the top of my head.

There's also the casino we call Ebay, but a Google search of "straight razor" will give you quite a few online vendors. At the risk of offending any of the wonderful folks out there by omission I'll refrain from trying to list them all, but I have not had a bad experience yet (except one belligerent bugger on ebay). The obvious "home team" sources are the Classifieds here and StraighRazorDesigns. Both are places where members offer blades that have that seller's reputation attached and that means a heck of a lot more here than on FleaBay.
But pretty much any website you find that has been mentioned here (or found in someone's signature here) are trustworthy. Prices vary quite a bit sometimes but there's always a good tradeoff for it (sharpness, attention to restoration detail, NOS, and scales materials).
Come to think of it, I've now bought blades from sellers in the US, Canada, Germany, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, England, Ireland, Japan, Turkey, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, and Hungary. My kids get a kick out of looking at the return addresses on my RAD packages. Seems that almost all SR vendors are honest, have fair prices, and can all be found mentioned here at one time or another. In my mind ebay is the only gamble - but unfortunately it has the largest selection and the occasional "steal".

Yes. Yes it can.
The classifieds are good. eBay can be good if you're careful, and patient and ask questions. Known eBay sellers that deal mainly in razors and often have online stores or separate web storefronts are good (taylors1000, manyrazor, cedarfurnitureman, relaxmxr, mr_barence, many more). My lowest percentage of good razors at good prices have come from local sources like flea markets, but you at least have the advantage of seeing the razor in hand, eliminating the possibility of paying for real dogs.
I've gotten burned a number of times dumpster-diving for cheap honing stones off eBay, playing "guess-what-stone-this-really-is" and guessing wrong. Fortunately, I've never been out much money for these junk stones because I bid low. The handful of times I've actually guessed right, I got real keepers for low prices, so I keep playing.Last edited by FatboySlim; 11-22-2009 at 01:25 AM.
