Dovo Prima Klang honing
I got a dovo bocote scaled prima klang back into my possesion the other day in a trade with a workmates.
I stripped it & put it on the spyderco ultrfine before I gave it an outing , It was a real dissapointment the shave was very poor .
Today I put it back on the hones , 800 , 1000 grit Japanese water hone , then coticule followed by chrome oxide strop . It just would not get sharp enough to pass the HTT .
As an afterthought I decided to strop it on the spyderco ultrafine & doing this has delivered the goods . It now passes the HTT .
I will have to wait till tomorrow or. Later on this week to see how this now shaves .
I thought I should post this experience just in case anyone else has had issues similar to my own with these razors .
Just a footnote , I am pretty expeirenced now as regarding my own honing,But I don't now own any other razors with this level of hollow grinding to them .
Cheers Paul

It's a big jump to go from 1k grit to a Coticule. I'd definitely get something between those. A BBW, or another Japanese waterstone.
Is there a possibility you are applying too much pressure. It takes very little to flex a very hollow blade. This results in the hone not forming the bevel properly.

It has already been through a progression of my hones blue belgian medium to fine & then ultrafine spyderco hones it would trim hair off my arms but theshave was poor.
It now looks very polished as it was before , but it mow has some bite to the edge .
The shave later this week shall determin if I have done a decent job on this blade .
I use a very light and even touch on this as I polished the edge as I wanted to make sure I didn't deforme the edge through using too much pressure.

I managed to miss that bit. Sorry mate!
When you say stropped it, do you mean you back honed, as you would if you overhoned?
The HHT has it's place, but i feel it's not the be all & end all, so it's worth trying a shave even if it doesn't pass this. Hope the shave is a smooth one!

I shaved with the touched up blade tonight & the result was a smooth &very comfortable shave .
In fact I have owned three of these razors in the past & none of them gave a decent shave ,but I my have been too hasty when I passed them on as I have improved my honing ability since then & I am hanging onto this blade as I believe I have just scatched the surface as to the capability to this type of grind.
I will keep posting as I improve my technique with this razor.
