    Default Paul Waldmin

I got a razor today at an antique shop, it came with a box on the box it says "Paul Waldmin" and under that it says "Weyer - Solingen"

On the tang it has words abover but its worn off and it says "Sheffield"

The scales are pretty beat up and the blade needs a little work. What can I use to polish the scales and I'm going get fine grit sandpaper for the little bit of rust on the blade.

I'll get pictures as soon as I can!

Paul Waldmin, Solingen-Weyer in 1922 and 1925, Weyerstrasse 220 in 1939. Mr Waldmin was an straight and safety-razor maker.

Post some pics if you can.

I'm going to try to clean it up then get pics, do you know how to take it off the scales? I need to do it to clean up some rust.

Since the word Sheffield can be seen on the tang blade, and Mr. Waldmin was a Solingen-based razormaker, it's possible that your razor is not with its original box.

I will add my request for photos to Max's

Photo bucket felt like being stupid and wouldn't let me rotate the pictures. Let me know if this is actually a good razor to shave with, if not no worries I can use it for other things instead of buying a cheap one on the internet to use for different things.

I think photobucket hates me because it shows up right but on photobucket they were sideways, anyways you see what I have.

Your razor was probably made by Thomas W. Ward & Co., of Sheffield, Which Goins says operated from the 1850s up to the present.

Nice find. To my untrained eye it looks like an oldie but a goodie. If that were my razor. (I only wish) I would try to keep it as close to how you found it as possible. Keep the scales on it and gently work around them. But it's not mine, so do whatever you want.

Edited to add: If the blade is in good shape, which it appears to be, it should be a great shaver after being honed.

I am going to keep the orginal scales, I'm going to paint it though so it looks a little better. Its already really sharp so I think with a barbers hone I can get it to be shave ready.

Lovely razor. This may be of use and so might this. Good luck and I'm totally with you on keeping the original scales. Edit Clean them first, don't go straight for the paint.
