Default New user here, please look at my Bengall straight

    Hi all,
This is my first post here. I have been wanting a straight razor for a few years now and I was out scavenging the antique shops when I found this Bengall razor. The price tag said $35 so it snatched it up quick.
I have read a few threads about Bengall blades and the general consensus is they are excellent blades that shave well. Care to elaborate further?
I have one question though. Did I overpay or was this a bargain?

I'm no expert but that blade looks to be in good condition and the Bengall users here seem to love theirs (still waiting to get mine honed to try it).

I'd say for $35 you did well, I've seen lesser blades in worse condition go for much more on the bay.

    Welcome to the SRP

I think you did OK for price, I almost always try to negotiate. All depends on how much I want what I find...

    Nice find and enjoy!

Nice old blade, should be a good one.You MAYBE could have gotten it cheaper with some haggling, but don't sweat it.If you hang around a while, you'll undoubtedly overpay, underpay, break something you just bought, and everything else you can think of.As long as you get some nice blades you really like, that's all that matters.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm glad I didn't get ripped off. I'm happy with my purchase. I'm getting it professionally honed this week because I'm itching to try it out.

When you get it back take your time and relax as I got a case of adrenalin excitement rush with a major heartrate!

Well I got a shave from mine but I think you can imagine my face looked like my cat had attacked me and lesson learned.

I absolutely LOVE my Bengall - if it's anything like what I know, you should be in for a treat!

    Default Bengall

I just bought a Bengall too on eBay, and paid a good bit more than $35 for it. Yours looks to be in excellent shape, and don't worry about whether you could have gotten it for a $1 or $2 cheaper. What's important is that once you have it cleaned up and honed, you will have an excellent razor that is worth easily twice what you paid.

Check out www.vintagebladesllc.com -- he's got a old Bengall there on sale for over $100. It's a really, really well restored one, but just the same, you can see that there's still plenty of interest in these razors.
