Thanked: 3Frozen blade anyone?
Hi, I've been reading about you have to give some time to allow for your straight to rest in between shaves. I remember when I studied steels that putting them on the freezer helped regenerate the steel.
So, my question is: as any of you ever tried to put the razor on the fridge after shaving, and if you did, notice any difference?
A word of CAUTION: I believe cold is good for steel but also very bad for most scales, particularly plastic ones. With wood and metal scales are probably safe!Last edited by yoshida; 12-01-2009 at 06:27 PM.

Thanked: 735What exactly does "regenerate the steel" mean?

Thanked: 3When I heat the steel and then cool it fast the connections in the steel don't have time to adjust and so remain "under tension", one way of making them go back to equilibrium was to put them on the freezer, or so it was what I've been told.

I have heard the same thing but never tried it. I do however submerge trumpets in very hot water to releave stress on the braces then put them in the fridge to hold their position. Same logic, maybe.

I think this calls for an experiment. Perhaps someone who isn't in college and sharing an apartment with 3 other people would be a better tester though...

Thanked: 39I've heard of "cryogenically" treated steel. Something about re-arranging the molecular structure or something to that effect. Think it was in a gunsmithing magazine, claimed it made fabulously accurate barrels.
Gonna have to do some research on that, could have possibilities......

Got to get colder than a refrigerator.

Even trumpets.... see the comments about solder.
I am not convinced but they have piqued my interest.
