newbie needs info on the Wester Bros razor?
Hello gentlemen,
I would like to know what you all think about Wester Bros?
I have recently purchased and honed a couple of Wester Bros " Di Fi " razors and found that they take an edge very well. I just shaved with one this morning and it was a very smooth shave as well. Are these underrated razors? They are made in Solingen, Germany and sold for less than $20 in excellent shape. What do you guys think?

These are nice razors. Made with Solingen quality.
"Wester Bros.Cutlery Co." existed 1904-1967 in New York City.
Charles and Max Wester were the owners.
It was originally founded in 1891 as Jacoby & Wester.
Wester Brothers was the sole inporter of goods made by Wester & Butz of Solingen.

Thankyou for the info!
I might of thought these razors were underrated because I see them sell for very little on ebay. I think these razor's shave just as good as any of my top razor's, including the DD Wonderedge. They just don't seem to have all the fancy scales with ducks, etc... on 'em. Maybe that's why they don't go for hundreds of clams.

The fancy scales are always pleasure, but good quality blades always in cost. For example, old Sheffield razors without fancy scales always on top.

Thanked: 13245Here is something to note about these razors....
Manah / Alex = Restorer
Maximilian / Max = Restorer
Gssixgun / Glen = Restorer
All three people have worked on or honed 100's if not 1000's of razors.. all three have a Wester Bros, De-Fi (Alex I am only assuming that is your personal razor in the pic) that could be a hint there, that we might think they are pretty good shavers

Thanked: 0Hello,
This is my first post on SRP so I hope my etiquette is appropriate. I too have just purchased a Wester Bros. Razor and am looking for some info regarding it. It does not have the anchor brand on the tang, instead it says No. 2 Yankee Shaver. Does this mean it's a lower quality blade? Also, I've seen yankee shavers numbers 1 and 3 but I can't seem to find anything on No. 2. Are they rare? Thanks for the help!

Welcome to SRP. I don't know the answer to your specific question. As noted in earlier posts, Wester Bros razors are as good as any, and for whatever reason, don't bring the prices of some of the more favored 'cult status' brands. I'm partial to their Manganese Steel version, and have a few of them. Enjoy your shave.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
