Welcome to SRP. If I'm not mistaken Mappin & Webb was a high end store like Abercrombie & Fitch. While they themselves didn't make the razors the stuff they had made with their marque was top shelf. I have one and it is a great razor. All those I've heard about from guys that have them are also wonderful shavers. Anyone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong on them not actually making the razors.

Thanks for setting me straight Alex. I should have thought to take a look at your excellent website before I stuck my foot in my mouth. I thought Mappin & Webb was sort of like Hoffritz but now instead of saying I was wrong once before I'll have to say I was wrong twice before ......

Get a M&W razor while you can! I own one and it is one of my best.

Thanked: 16Mappin & Webb still exist. Their shop is on Regent St in London. I doubt they still have straights made for them, but I'll certainly have a look, next time I'm in the area.

This is only brandname. I was in this shop. By the end of the 1880s, Mappin Brothers was purchased by the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. of London.

I have three Mappins. One appears to be a reground wedge in Ivory that I think may have been part of a set (has an M on the back of the tang). The other two are an indentical pair in a nice little box. Mappins are top notch shavers from a "designer" company. Very nice if you can get one (or more...).
