Thread: Brand New Dovo Razor Chips! Help!

I have honed thousands and thousands of new Dovo's as well as re-honed thousands of them. I also personally own about 20 of them. I have yet to see one chip out unless they hit someting like metal on a strop or a sink, or they are dropped or they are dropped with the scales closed and hit the scales....... These things I have seen hundreds of new people do before they even realize what they have done or are doing wrong. Most of the time unless a blade is really dinged, it is not a big problem to fix the little chips or damage that is done.

I hope this is still considered to be on topic:

Last night I had my best shave yet as a beginner, gently rinsed the blade in the sink..........and dinked it on the faucet.
Now there is a very small deformity on the blade, almost at the toe. Its not a chip, but it is marking my strop.
I am overseas and only have a yellow coticule and leather/canvas strop with me - will I be able to gently hone it out/off, maybe with a slurry?

A picture would help with assessing the damage. Hard to know what a "deformity" is.

And this is why i do not rinse my blade, instead I wipe it on a towel. The blade does not get wet(chance of rust) or banged into the faucet.

Yes well everyday is indeed a school day for the straight razor beginner, that's for sure!
How my Grandad learnt to shave without the internet, I'll never have the privilege of knowing!

I took pictures close up, and they were blurred.
I took pictures from further away, and they zoomed in really well.
Now they are only a few kilobytes I guess they don't enlarge so well.
If anyone would like me to email them the bigger files please let me know by PM.

I'll probably never understand where the problem is. You're supposed to rinse the blade back to edge. If you keep it like this, there is no chance you'll hit the faucet, except, of course, with the back.

I'm very grateful for what is sound advice, apart maybe from advocating leaving the faucet running continuously while shaving, but this time the horse has bolted. Do you think I can tempt it back to the stable by gently honing on my coticule, or will I have to wait until my return to UK in February to resume this activity which I am coming to look forward to each day?
