    Default FrankenDovoDubl?

So today I was out and about and noticed a nice Dovo Dubl Duck satinedge sitting in an antique shop for $94.50. It does not look like it is in bad condition, It'll definetely need some sandpaper therapy and a good honing but oh well, it's an antique.

Heres the question. The scales were black with the Dovo/solingen stamp. The blade says dubl duck satinedge; is this right? from the posts I've read and the images I've seen all satinedges say satinedge. This one just says it on the blade.

Is it safe to assume that this is not an authentic (sans blade) dubl duck? Would it be safe for me to ask for a lower price? I'm really interested in this razor but I'm not going to pay a ton for something that isn't legitmate.

What would be a good price to ask?

Welcome to SRP. If the scales are marked Dovo it is a mismatched rescale. I wouldn't give twenty bucks for the thing. Especially if the blade needs to be refinished. Check out the SRP classifieds for decent deals on vintage razors. I've had good luck on ebay too by asking questions if the photos weren't clear. I would stay away from that one.

Well, Dovo did make DD's, so they could be original scales, but it could also be rescaled. I'm not really sure there's any way to know for certain.

Maybe thebigspendur will be along with an opinion. If Dovo did make dubl ducks they didn't make them with scales inlaid with a Dove emblem AFAIK. I may be wrong, I was wrong twice before.

    Default Heres the weird thing

I've seen the exact same razor here under an ebay ad. Everyone seemed to think that it was hinky.

I wonder how I can talk him down on the price.....he's an antiques dealer so he probably think's he has stumbled upon Blackbeard's personal spoils. Hmmm, In all honesty I could care less for the mismatch. I just want to get a good price. hmmmmmm

Well if the scales are in really great shape you may find them useful on a Dovo that lacks original scales down the road. The blade would need to be really close to minty for me to plunk down a lot of dough for a Satinedge rescale. They are a relatively common razor. If it has wear on the spine and or the edge it just wouldn't be worth it. If you were to post a photo members could give better advice on that particular piece.

I just did a search on ebay 'straight razors' for duck. There were 29 results and five of them were Satinedges. No shortage of them.

Always ask for a lower price! No matter what it is.
