Thanked: 10Thiers Issard for The Art Of Shaving. Need some info.
I've been looking around and can't find much about these razors. SWMBO bought me a gift card from TAOS for my birthday and I can't imagine that I'd need $150 worth of creams and moisturizers, so another razor sounds like a plan.
Can anyone tell me how the TI's rank as far as quality and grade of shave, specifically the ones offered by TAOS (thought I can't imagine they'd be much different than any other TI)?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Will

Will,
TAOS TIs are made from the new C135 steel, and I would suspect that they would shave like others made from that steel.
I have two (2) C135 TIs, one full hollow, the other half-hollow. The fit and finish on them were very good.
The steel is very hard, and it took a little tweaking to get the edge just so.
However, when the edges got there the shaves were excellent; the edge also seems to last a lot longer than with my other (softer) blades.
The feel on the face is also different with these blades; can't describe it - you would have to feel it for yourself
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

I sure hope so. From what their advertisement says they are hardened to Rc64-65 which means they are going to be a bear to hone the first time and more difficult than most when it finally needs the first touch up honing. C135 probably indicates a carbon content in the steel of 1.35%. That being said; common tool steel referred to as silver steel can contain up to 1.25% carbon and be hardened up to Rc 64; however, the harder the steel the more brittle it becomes.

I will get a TI eventually... Like when I'm done with this whole college thing. I would go for the horn myself.

Thanked: 10Horn it is then. Can't wait to get home later and fire it up. I haven't shaved in about a week so it'll be a well deserved session.

Thanked: 10I got to the store and looked at the horn and it looked like plastic. i wasnt a fan of the quality. i went with the bocote wood. they are shave ready, according to the paperwork that comes with the razor you dont even need to strop it before you shave. we'll see how it goes, im shaving in a few minutes.
