Default Does a cracked heel mean the razors dead?

Bidding on a couple of straights on eBay and one has a small crack on the heel but is gorgeous otherwise. Could it still be used or is it destined to be a display item only?

It depends. If the crack can be ground out, it could be used. If not, it'd probably carve you up a little, maybe damage the strop too. I don't suppose you want to post a photo, in case you do go for it, so it's your judgement as to whether the repair is possible.

This is one way to fix the problem if you have the tools, It doesn't look like you would have to take off as much as I did either.

As the previous posters have said it doesn't look too deep and it is pretty far back.I would want to remove it. If it wasn't ground out I would be afraid that it would travel. Stropping might put enough pressure on it to make it worse.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I gotta admit I'm shaving with one with a crack
good thing I basically never use the heel to shave with so far so good ;p
but it's not that safe, so you could hone it out

That's an easy repair. Follow Shams advice & breadknife the heel.
Make sure you go back & forth. If you go side to side, the crack will likely creep!

Oh, & those are some great salvage jobs fellas!
