    Default Razor Advice

I'm pretty new at this but looking to pick up another razor. I'm currently shaving with a 5/8, half hollow REX razor. I've got a 7/8 Böker "The Celebrated", but I'm having a little trouble with it. Not sure if it's the size or the full hollow grind, but I'm doing much better with the REX right now. I'm thinking of trying out a 6/8. I've been eying a full hollow 6/8 Le Grelot from Vintage Blades or Classic Shaving or the half hollow 6/8 TI Super Gnome from Classic Shaving.

I've heard that quarter and half hollow grinds are more forgiving and thus might be better for a newbie. The Le Grelot looks like a nicer razor, but it's hard for a newbie to tell.

I know, it's a bit of a personal choice and YMMV, but I just thought I'd throw it out there for opinions.

    Thanks.

i don't think grind has anything to do with your problem.
Most likely size of the blade will be affect your shaving.
    just my 0.02 cents.

Those are both good razors IME and I think either one would be a good addition. I tend to favor the TI just because I like that brand very much but TI is making the Le Grelot now so it is six of one and half dozen of the other.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Yeah, that one. I personally get a great shave from my 5/8 and 7/8, but I didn't have nearly as much luck with 4/8 or 6/8, even though all are/were full hollow.

I'd say get a handful of other shave-ready used razors off one of the shave forums at $30-80 a pop instead of buying a new blade - at least for now.

I say this because, two months in myself, I'm not only finding that different sizes work better than others for me... but also that different brands/grinds in the same size give me a more comfortable shave than others as well.

So, this early in your game, maybe it'd be better to sample a few different sizes and grinds. Then, once you've found which one(s) work better for you, sell the used blades and use the funds to buy one new one in that size and grind.

IMHO it's better to try a variety and find what works best first THEN dump $175-200 on a single new blade in that size and grind rather than go straight to a single, expensive new blade and be disappointed if it turns out to be uncomfortable.

    Just my two cents.

    Good luck with your choice.
    John
