    Default Worcester Razor Co, Question

I found this razor at my grandmothers house. I can't find any information online and wanted to know about the company/knife.

The blade says "Red Tobacco" and "Worcester Razor Co; Worcester, Mass" on the blade.

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's a straight razor , not a knife . Don't try to use it as a knife or you will break it , for sure . I can't tell you anything about the company , but I can tell you that you have an excellent razor , and I'm sure I'm not the only one drooling a little bit . Although the scales are plain , the blade etch advertising tobacco , the notch point , and the swayback spine make the razor desirable to both collectors , and shavers . Some Flitz or Maas metal polish , and some elbow grease will be all that's needed to bring the shine back to the blade , and scales . If you want to shave with it , you will need a little edge restoration and a professional honing , by someone who shaves with a straight razor . Nice catch !

The razor was made 1900 - 1930, by Worcester Razor Co., Massachusetts.

Hi. I have this same razor and some additional information, but I am on vacation and 1000 niles away from my data. Basically; this razor was a premium that could be purchased by redeeming cupons from Red Devil Tobacco purchases. The Red Devil Tobacco company went out of business in the early 1900s, but I don't recall the exact date off the top of my head. The Worcester Razor Co. made a quality product and it should serve you well.

    Regards - Walt

    Question Question...

I was doing some spring cleaning to have a yard sale to benefit my church (we need a building in which to meet) and I found an item I did not know I had...must have been my late father's. Anyway, I was looking for some info on it and ended up finding this post. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me something about it? I would really appreciate any information as to value so when I sell it, I will get as much as possible for benefit of the church.

Problem is, I don't know exactly what it is as I am kind of scared to open it any further than I have. The packaging (made mostly of paper and cardboard) is falling apart and I don't know what to do now. The outer paper has been scotch taped in a couple of places (made to look like brown leather but I believe it's just thick paper) and is embossed with: (Left side)
    Columbia Cutlery Co.
    ~Worcester Mass.~
    (Right side)
    Fully Warranted
    Price $3.00
Inside that is a simple cardboard wrap around the item and when you open that, there is another paper wrap covered with type that begins "Worcester Razor Co." This is the part that is really falling apart and I'm scared to move it much.
Inside that is the item...I'm assuming it's a straight razor? It has something that looks like a brown plastic handle with metal (the razor part?) folded into it. There appears to be a great deal of rust coating the part of the blade that I can see and I do not know if it could be removed or not.

Can anyone provide any information at all regarding this item, what I should/shouldn't do to open it, and/or its potential value? If you can provide information then I can do the research on my own, I just thought that since your site came up and since you had this thread that I would ask before setting off to do the full monty on the research...lol. Peace & Blessings!

It does sound like you have a a straight razor. Without actually opening the razor and looking at the stamp/marking on the tang it would be difficult to verify if it is a Worchester razor or not. With that said we do not provide valuations of razors here as each person values them differently. It does sound like the razor could use a good look over by one of the members here that does restorations on them. If it is rusty it may not be salvageable or you may have a diamond in the rough Good luck

FWIW, I was given a worchester in horrible shape. 'Another tragedy. It looked like it was a very good razor. I used it for honing practice & this poor abused blade still took wonderful edges and gave wonderful shaves.
