I hear SS takes more time to hone but dovo should give a good shave. As far as maintenance it's less susceptible to rusts or spotting as carbon and SS should hold an edge longer.

As far as work it sounds more like a trade off than more work, I know there are a number of guys here that love SS blades though.

They're not much more work to hone really. Some people have noted a slightly harsher edge, but I've had a few & love them. The Dovo No 41 blade is very good.
Stainless scales make a razor's balance pretty awful though. If i understand correctly, I think that's the one you've gone for? If you did, don't panic. That was my first blade & it got me through.

Your friend's friend will be fine. Stainless blades shave just fine. He still needs to take good care of the razor, because even "stain-less" edges will prematurely dull when not dried properly.

I don't find them any noteworthy more difficult to sharpen than a carbon steel razor.

    Best regards,
    Bart.

well, a friend of my cousin says that he hasn't screwed up completely, yet, or perhaps he hasn't disclosed everything.
could you find from that friend of yours whether he also ordered the maintenance stone instead of a maintained edge? i'll ask my cousin for more wisdom

Tell your friend he can pass along the good news, all is well if the blade has been honed. You can also tell them about this website.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain
