    Default Dating a Dovo

Is there anyway to tell the year a Dovo razor was manufactured by looking at the numbers imprinted on the tang?

Not that I know of. Older Dovos will have Fritz Bracht on the reverse tang and even older production will have Dorp & Voos on the reverse tang, IIRC, the contraction of which is Dovo.

Yes you can't go by the numbers. You need to go by the name on the blade or the type of scales or the size (Dovo hasn't made any 7/8s razors for some time now). These factors can give you a rough idea of the age.

Hmm interesting so the numbers on the tang of a Dovo blade are more a reference to the model of the razor perhaps? Or even steel used. I have just been paying closer attention to them then normally. For example a Dovo Silver Steel has a 4 stamped on it and a Dovo Special has 1516. But some don't have a number at all.

I'm not sure about all of the model #s but I have some that are the same model # from the Dorp & Voos and the Fritz Bracht periods. Examples being # 25, 88, and 98. I think they continued with those model #s after the Fritz Bracht years but I don't know if they are still used in current production.
