    Default Bullseye Washers??

Ok well I always thought that bullseye washers were all the dome washers I see, but I am beginning to think otherwise after reading through a few post.

So what exactly makes it a bullseye washer rather than a dome washer setup? Is it the placement of flat washer and dome washer that makes it bulseye?

Also, are the vintage bullseye washers really stacked? or is that just a fold in the metal that was made during its making? If this is not what was meant by being "stacked," what are people referring to?

The quality, real vintage bullseye washers that I have seen have been one-piece affairs. The very old ones I have taken off razors have been quite solid with a crease/fold/ring-mark in the metal giving the appearance of being stacked, but they have been one piece. Later/cheaper bullseyes that I have examined have obviously been made by doming the metal, and the doming block or cutter must have had a small ring embellishment as the appearance of stacked washers has been given by a single washer.

I've never seen a stacked vintage bullseye washer, but that doesn't mean that there weren't any, of course!

Stacking washers (smaller diameter on top of larger diameter washer) seems to me to be just a way to emulate the old bullseye washers.

    Regards,
    Neil
