Thread: Blue Steel Razors?

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has heard of "Blue Steel" razors? I have 3 that have different stampings of Blue Steel on the shank. They were in a small group of razors that my Wife got me for my birthday. Don't have any pics yet. Any help would be appreciated.

I have one called Dixie Blue Steel with a round point. The scales are synthetic Ivory and It is the best razor I have.

I've got a couple made by Kinfolks that are marked Blue Steel. They are both real good shavers. I've seen others marked Blue Steel but haven't gotten any but the Kinfolks.

The Kinfolks ones are really great shavers. I don't know firsthand, but someone I trust (and Jimmy does too) told me.

Thanks guys. Yeah, my wife really surprised me. We went out to the antique mall and when I went outside to bring my coffee mug to the car she snagged a bundle of 11 razors. They were having a sale so she got a really good deal on them. A couple have some pretty severe hone wear and a couple have some chips but there were a couple of good newer Wade and Butchers a Swedish Razor marked: JERNBOLAGET ESKILSTUNA SWEDEN, which looks in pretty good shape except for some small chips along the edge, hopefully they can be honed out, and a Geneva Cutlery Corp. razor with a 7 in a Pyramid. The Geneva razor has a brushed finish and looks like it might be stainless steel but I'm not sure about that.

yeah i've seen the stamp on razors of different german and american brands.

I was also wondering about the label "Blue Steel." I had assumed that it didn't actually mean anything with regard to the composition of the steel in the blade. Both of my first razors are stamped "Blue Steel," and although neither of them is a well-known brand, they both shave really well. Anyone heard of these?

The first one (which I bought from Manah) is poorly stamped, and was made for A. Domed[??], Buffalo, N.Y.

The second (which I got from Bob Keyes) says "BLUE STEEL, Made in Germany" on one side, and "W.H. Wirth, Providence, R.I." on the other.

I haven't heard of those but I assume they were distributors. Who would have been the maker of the 'Blue Steel' razors is anyone's guess. There is a white steel and a blue steel in Japanese tools. I did a web wiki search on it once and found some info but I don't know that the Blue Steel stamped on the razors has anything to do with the composition of the alloy. Hope someone with more knowledge comes along if anyone does know.

I have a Kinfolks Blue Steel round point in excellent condition. I have not yet shaved with it.

I have only seen the Kinsfolk Blue Steel too, and can confirm it is a great shaver.
