Classic v. Disposable
so is there any difference between a classic straight razor like a dovo, and one that uses disposable blades (like a Feather or Monsieur Charles)?
I mean besides the obvious differences of one being a fixed blade and the other having replaceable blades.

I'll just say, yes there is a difference and ask you to read a lot of the wiki.

Wildtim's advice is very good. Short answer: Yes! I shave w/ both, and a traditional straight, if sharp, is much more comfortable & gives me a closer shave w/ less effort.

UPDATE!!
Ok, so I recently received my Dovo and I am loving it. Much better/more comfortable than a disposable stra8.
Here is my question. The disposable that I was using was a $10 magic blade that used standard double edge blades that you cut in half. I was looking into getting a disposable stra8 of a higher quality to use as a backup while I send my razor in for honing or if I travel. I just can't afford another real blade right now, and most disposables are around $30.
I was looking into the Dovo Shavette and some others like the Straight Razor - Monsieur Charles.
If I wanted to pay for a Feather I'd just get another straight.
So I want to know if anybody has used either the shavette or one similar to the consieur charles and which is better. The dovo shavette is closer to the size of a real straight, but I got some mixed reviews.
I will get another real stra8 later, but right now i'm just looking for comparison between disposables.

Hey look! A travel razor!
5/8 straight razor - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
You can find a lot of great deals in the classifieds here. I wouldn't waste any money on another disposable-blade straight.

Lots of nice shave-ready straights can be had for the price you're looking at. They may not be lookers, but they'll shave as well as anything.
The only thing it adds to your travel kit is the strop, which can easily be rolled up, or around your other shaving stuff. I'd just go with another straight.
