Thanked: 0Anyone know this Wostenholm?
I picked this up pretty cheap at an antique store today. I looked through the database and found similar, but nothing exact. Obviously, It's a Wostenholm IXL but can anyone place the date? Any info (date or otherwise) would be great! thanks!

I believe the text says "The IXL improved swiss manufactured solely by George Woste[rest is rubbed off but probably 'nholm & sons'

Such razors were made by Wostenholm since Sep.10, 1850 plus 10 - 15 years.

The Swiss reference reminds me of my Wosty/Lecoultre frameback. Cool blade.

Those 1850's LeCoultre pattern blades are good shavers! I have a similar frameback Wostenholm and a LeCoultre; they are easy and fun to shave with, but the heels of the blades do not sit flat on the hone, so I have to use a rolling X pattern to get the entire edge sharp.

That looks near identical in shape to the first blade I ever picked up. It is still sitting in my drawer while I decide how I want to scale it. Mine has brass for teh frame portion and the blade is etched with a swirl pattern and the text "Damascus Steel". The maker's stamp only has dates a model number and IXL, no Wosty though. I really need to take picures of it one of these days

My Wostenholm frameback also has the faux Damascus blade pattern, but a steel spine.
Get that Wosty cleaned up and honed up, and I think you will find it will serve well.

Here is a similar Wostenholm which I own and use, also a French frameback with a faux Damascus blade..
