Thanked: 0Wacker or TI?
I'm looking for a 6/8 or 7/8. preferably a 7/8. I do like black scales but I don't really care. Would you guys go for TI or Wacker? If the Wackers, what is the difference between all the Wackers besides the blade width, scales, and etching on shavingshop? Are all the blades the same? Is the Jungmeister http://www.shavingshop.com/index.php...6category%3D74
better than this below?

I'll take the better one. Thanks.Last edited by MasterMind; 01-16-2010 at 05:39 AM.

Wacker TI?
Hello, Mastermind,
My first choice would be Thiers-Issard "Dos Festonne" 6/8"-7/8" white bone scales from the Invisible Edge (Thiers-Issard-UK) or wood scales at Rasage Poulin or Rasurpur. This is a glorious razor, although pricey.
This one is a swing vote: Thiers-Issard Le Grelot 6/8" with plastic or wood scales available at several vendors. This is a great shaver, although modest in appearance. I'd go with plastic, which is substantial.
The Shaving Shop is a Wacker paradise. I suggest also looking at the Wacker 6/8" Spanish point "Antik" or the Sheffield Steel 1st Edition 7/8".
What could be more enjoyable than searching for a new razor? Well . . .
Good luck and enjoy.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 1903We recently had a discussion on good or best razors. I recommend consulting the FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions - Straight Razor Place Wiki. (What is "a good razor"? What is "the best razor"?) All Wacker razors I have seen in the last 18 months were of high quality, and you should be fine with either razor. I haven't shaved with either of the razors you mention, but have generally found that I like some razors others do not, and vice versa. Therefore, I would be cautious to recommend a razor to anyone else without mentioning that they may not like its shaving characteristics - too many variables involved.
Regards,
Robin

Go with the razor you think you WANT more. I've been checking out the Wacker razors, and they do indeed look quite nice. I wouldn't mind having one someday. As long as you are starting out with a well-made tool and some patience, you'll learn to use it to get the results you want from it.

Mastermind,
Ultimately, the final choice is up to you. Both the TI and the Wacker are excellent str8 razors. I do recall an SRP razor review by a member who noted that there were some quality control issues with the appearance of the scales of the TI str8 razor he reviewed. But it in no way impacted the quality of the shave that it delivered."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain
