Thanked: 4Hen & Rooster?
Got this off `D bay a few weeks ago and it was at the house when I got there. Since I am new and learning tell me what you think...
It is not shave ready, but will be soon. Can't see any chips on the edge. Looks to be in very good condition.

Yes, if its marked Bertrum you have a real Hen and Rooster. Otherwise it could be a Klass or one of the newer ones they've been selling.
I was just looking at a Bertrum pocketknife I have and on the rooster it has 5 feathers your has less so I assume it's not a Bertrum.Last edited by thebigspendur; 01-17-2010 at 11:25 PM.

Thanked: 4The off side...
Nothing here except SOLINGEN
Not a clear picture due to glare, but no other markings anywhere. No "Bertrum".

I've got some experience with H&R pocket knives and less with razors. The early stamps I would see on H&R pocket knives were Voss, C. Bertram, Gutmann, and then Bertram without the 'C.'. There were a couple of other importers stamps that I can't recall at the moment. I've never seen a razor with any of those stamps.
I have a vintage razor with the H&R logo and F.Herder on the tang. A Solingen piece of course. I also have this razor with the blade etched with the H&R logo and Solingen kind of fancy with pick bone handles. It is not vintage but probably made in the last five years. A good shaving razor that honed up really well.
I've also heard of some that are stamped as "Made In Spain' and I have no experience with them. Dunno if your's is a vintage or not. Unusual IME to find one with the logo and nothing else stamped on the tang. If you ever want to sell or trade it let me know.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

After H&R went belly up in the 1970s AG Russell bought the company and continued making them with the same people at the same factory and these had the bertrum markings. Eventually his connection with the company stopped probably in the late 70s and they closed and everything was sold off. Klass bought the name and continued making them in his shop with his workers. After that Frost Cutlery bought the name and that's when things started to really go downhill. I'm not sure who owns it now but its a H&R by name only.
