There are also a few Mastro Livi videos on Youtube as well.

I would link them, but I'm at work and we cant get Youtube here..! If you search Mastro Livi though, you should find them!

    Definately worth a watch!

Notice in the Dovo vid how the guy doing the hollow grinding tests the blade thickness on his thumbnail... he makes the blade flex in a few spots and they return to shape...

I caught this because some time ago I saw this on Boker's site about this "fingernail test" they do

..."A guarantor for the highest quality is the successful "finger nail test." Only the edge of a perfectly ground blade can be visibly bent on your thumbnail and returns immediately to its original shape when released. Cheap blades are too thick to do this, and for that reason they are referred to as "axes" by the experts."

    boker link

Now, I have yet to hear an "expert" call a thick blade an axe, but it was interesting to me when I saw the Dovo grinder flex the blade on his thumb

Excellent video footage! I'm not sure how long I would last working for a razor manufacturing plant. I think there would be to many razor's missing.

Wel, you'd essentially be playing with the -same- razors all the time, so I suppose the novelty would wear off fairly quick and it would become just work.

I have restored a very fat 9/8 wedge for one of our members that could rightfully be called a little axe or meatcleaver.

I understand their intention though, and it is indeed a very delicate grind. Not easy to do by amateurs. Especially without water stone, as you could easily ruin the temper of something that thin.
