Robeson 8/8
I have been prowling the flea markets, antique stores and auctions for years in search of razors, but have never come across any "choppers" that would fit into my budget. At a flea market this weekend I found a nice Robeson 8/8 and thought my quest had come to an end. And then, about six stalls further on, sits a 9/8+ Joseph Eliott "For Barber's Use". They say all things come to he who waits, and I have been waiting a long time for a day like this. And now the really great part, the combined price for the two was less than fifty bucks. And I'm not even going to tell you about the Filarmonica I found last weekend, because that might seem like I was rubbing it in.
Incidentally, for any Robeson fans, I posted an entry in the Clubs section that shows a great Robeson counter display with twelve "naked lady" scaled razors that recently was sold at auction.

Congrats on an excellent find! Large american straights seem to be rare. The largest I have is a 7/8's Thistle Cut which also was a local find. In fact most of the straights I have 7/8's or larger were local finds which were had for a song.

Since Robesons are great shavers in my experience, I look forward to the shave report on your Leviathan of American steel! Congratulations.

Outstanding snag on the Robeson, wow! I'm sure that the experienced collectors on SRP have seen a number of others, but for me personally, I think that's the first 8/8 truly American made razor I've ever seen. Like Joed said, the larger American razors are hard to find. I'd shave with American razors if I could find them in the larger sizes, I love the steel and the edge they take.

The Robeson is very nice, but what about that 9/8 J. Elliot?! That razor is so beautiful -- looks like it is in fantastic shape, too. Very nice finds, congrats!
