Default Found this at my Grandfathers(huge pics)

New here, new to straight razors as well. Found this razor while cleaning out my Grandfather's place, any ideas what it is? Would it be worthwhile to restore? Does it need to be restored?

    Any input is appreciated, thanks.

    Dan

Box says "Shapleigh Hwd & Co"

This part says "I. Boker & Co."

    Above Dixie it reads "Germany"

Looks nice to me! I think just a good cleaning, honing, maybe tighten the pins if they're loose, and that will be a great razor!

It should clean up fairly easily, and I would imagine it will hone up and shave well.

    I say go for it

Hey Dan! Nice razor your grandad had there.

It really doesn't look to be in bad nick at all. Even the scales seem to be in pretty good condition.

Just a good cleaning and honing, I should think. We have lots of very experienced and friendly people here who could make it shine again! Have a look in Classified's under Member Services for someone near you.

I saw your other thread, and I'd have to agree with you and say it's a good idea to start with the Dovo and get your technique down before you try using something with so much sentimental value. But once you've got it down, no reason that couldn't be a great shaver.

    Thanks for the replies.

Anyone have some input on what brand/model it may be?

I understand if that's not distinguishable I just come from firearm culture where one would be surprised what people can find out about old firearms.

Nice razor! It is mismatched with the box, which appears to be a combination of two different boxes. August Voigt was a barbers supply house and not a manufacturer of razors. The razor was made by a jobber who stamped the razors with Voigt's brand. The company was in business in St. Louis from 1920 to 1940.

    Regards - Walt
