    Smile crossroads :D

good morning to you all .

i am standing between two roads

please advice me from you experience

i am oscilating between a SRD bismarck and leather strop and a Revisor and leather strop from their site

now hopefully my dillemma will meet your experience and resolve this little nightmare

will the Revisor match the shaveability of the SRD bismarck with a little stropping and maybe a little CrO ?

if u ever had both do u think the revisor will match or even exceed the shave given by the bismark from srd? if not what did u do to it in order to do so ( for example a little more time on CrO or some other kind of finishing stone? )

    thanks in advance

best regards from a cold europe

Its difficult to advise someone on which razor to get, as the choice is so personal. What suits one person may not suit another, and that goes for the finish as well. Some people prefer CrOx, and other prefer diamond.

I have a Bismarck, and its really a great shaver. Plus it looks great! Its got good weight, a great 6/8 width and just shaves really well.

I dont own a Revisor, so I cant comment on those. Where would you get the Revisor from? Is that from SRD as well?

Which ever razor you get, if its from SRD it wont need any CrOx before use as they ship their razors shave ready. The first time you use it, all it will need is a stropping. Some people dont even strop before use, they just shave right out the box for the first shave, then strop from the second one onwards.

You only need to use paste if the razor has been used a bit, and its starting to pull or not shave as well as before.

IME, Bismarcks are great razors and shave really well. Other members can chip in about the Revisor!

    Good luck!

I don't have a Bismarck but have had several Revisors. When I sold most of them off, I kept one Revisor which I think is a really good shaver. IMHO

    Default Crossroads . . .

    Hello, Julian:

I have no opinion on the Revisor, since I don't own one. I have seen photos of them and they look lovely. I also have read they are good shavers, properly honed, that is.

I do own a Bismarck, however, and love it. The 6/8" razor is not only gorgeous, it is also a fabulous shaver. Mine came from SRD and was honed by Lynn. I did not even strop it for the first shave.

The only recommendation I can make in this case is to go with what catches your eye and tickles your heart. Which do you prefer? Make your choice and go with it. In the future, you will come to similar crossroads. By then, with some experience behind you, in all likelihood the choice will be easier to make. Or perhaps not.

    What fun.

    Regards,

    Obie

I do not have a Bismark, but I do have a Revisor, and it is a great shaver. Having said that, I will say that SRD probably has the best selection of strops. I do not know who you would buy the Revisor from, but I would vote for SRD because they have great service and great products. Both would be good(razors). I have heard good things about the Bismarks, so the deciding factor would be who has the best strops, that is if you want to buy both from the same company.
    You don't have to, though.

I'm going to start rambling, so... I vote for "Straight Razor Designs". The razor will be honed for free + another free honing service the next time it is needed.

    Good luck,

    Steve

Gee - I need to pay attention. Sorry! I guess you are going to buy either from SRD.

Okay, that's easy, buy both! LOL! That's a big help. I will say that Dovos have a really good resale value (for some unknown reason). IMO, they are overrated. (don't beat me up, guys)

    I vote for the Revisor.

    hi guys

thanks for all the good replys

my bad i didnt make it realy clear about where i would buy the revisor

if i would, i would buy it from the revisor website in germany and that's why i would like your advice because i want to know if the revisor from the revisor website in germany ( only honed by the factory ) will give me a better or equaly nice shave like the bismarck from SRD honed by the guys there.

i realy like the bismark with the white handles or the revisor with thumb notch in 6/8 or the 6/8 round point revisor i cand decide but i incline for the bismarck because they have nice strops at SRD

but i do not see the white handle version of bismarck in a strop set, only the red handle version why is that? does that mean i can only get them separate?

thank you all for the good advice

    best regards, iulian

Lynn's honing will be far superior than any factory edge.

    This is really good advice!

What it really boils down to is which do you prefer?

Although, if you're like me and in the grip of full blown RAD, you just end up getting both..! Hehe!

I think you've made a good choice ordering from SRD. Lynn's honing is second to none, their strops are fantastic (I have the 3" black latigo with webbed fabric) and the service is excellent!

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Oh, and be sure to post some pictures of your loot when it arrives..!
