    Default Razors in London, UK

    Hey folks,
Long time lurker, first time poster. Just had my first straight razor shave on the weekend with a shavette. It went really well so I'm looking forward to trying a nicely honed proper blade.

I'll be traveling through London and Belfast over the next few weeks and am wondering if any of you have suggestions on shaving shops to check out. I've seen D.R. Harris products on this site so I'll check out their pharmacy in London but hopefully you fellas have some other 'must sees'.

    Cheers

Welcome to SRP. Check out The Invisible Edge here. Not sure if they have a brick and mortar but the proprietor is a member here ...blueprinciple and a really good honer with fine new, and vintage razors and other kit.

Take a look at the SRP Wiki beginner's guide here as well if you haven't already. Enjoy your trip.

There's tons of goodies in the London, Truefitt & Hill, Geo F Trumper, Taylor of Old Bond St, Penhaligons to name a few. I think TF and GFT also do shaves. The department stores are also quite well versed in those soaps/scents if you want to compare (I quite liked Selfridges and Fenwick).

Steve at the invisible edge is a nice chap and can put a mean edge on a razor.

I think I'm right in saying that most of the high st retailers selling cutthroat razors don't acually sell them shave ready. Plenty of soaps and and other requisites from the famous names. Pound is weak against most currencies at the moment. London prices can be higher than those in the rest of the UK.
Steve Dempster and Neil Miller are two good supppliers of razors and strops, but both are mail order.
Connaught Supplies is mail order again, but sells some of the Proraso soaps etc., cheaper than my nearest local supplier with a shop premises.

Trumpers sell DOVO razors, and they sell them shave ready. I got my first razor from them and it came with a killer edge on it. They also offer honing services, plus their line on soaps and creams, as well as selling strops, brushes, DE razors, stands, colognes and loads more..!

I've been to both establishments (Mayfair and Piccadilly) and they're great. They also do shaves, but make sure you book in advance...! Their shaves are excellent, and are a real treat!

Theres also other premises in the area, as Ursus says. Taylor of Old Bond Street is just round the corner from Trumpers on Jermyn Street. Truefitt and Hill are 71 St James Street, again very close to Trumpers and TOBS.

If you're in the area, feel free to PM me, as I live in Pimlico which is two stops on the tube away..!

    Ladies and gentlemen,

Stuart mentions a string of shaving paradises in London.

My dear Stuart, I envy you.

    Hi Obie,

You are always welcome chez moi, and a trip to Piccadilly would have to be done..! It is a veritable Mecca for the straight razor enthusiast.

There are some great pubs around there as well..!

    All the best,

    Stuart

Don't forget the larger department stores in London like Harrods and my current favourite, Fortnum. Both stock excellent selections, often hard-to-find ranges. Good luck!

+1 on that - as if you needed me to add anything further! Basically a walk along Jermyn Street, St. James' Street and Curzon Street

    Default Razors in London, UK

    Stuart and Rum:

Gentlemen, thank you for the invitation. I love London. After all, any city that has Harrods, the pubs and all those glorious shave shops must be the front yard to paradise.

Thank you, Rum, for sending the maps, too. I stumbled onto Jermyn Street on my first trip there a long time ago. So here I was, humming Stephane Grapelli's tune "Jermyn Street" — I mean when on Jermyn Street . . . — and I come upon this shave shop. What's this? What's this? Was it Trumper's, Taylor's? I forget. Which one is on Jermyn Street? I lost sense of time. How long I was in that delightful shop I forget. It was worth every moment.

So, gentlemen, I will see you in London one of these days. Stay well, and thanks again.

    Regards,

    Obie
