Straight Razor Storage Pearls
Hi everyone,
Well being realatively new to this I'm always wondering if when I post an Idea... someone will say... hey .. that's old news... we've already heard that... But.. I've been struggling a bit with this and came up with a few Ideas and I thought maybe we could all share our ideas on how we handle this problem..
If you are like me you end up buying Razors from ebay and antique stores that don't have a box or the box is worthless... I have a problem figuring out how to store them so they are not damaged any further
I've been keeping my eye open for something and was at the "Container Store here in Dallas... they have an online site too... I told the lady what I was looking for and first she showed me some jewely boxes ... like you would place a necklace in ...with cheap cotton in the box....89 cents each and not too bad an idea!! but they were just a little big and the fit of the lid wasn't tight.. I'd have to add tape to the inside of the lid...etc..
I looked through the store on my own and came to th "collectors" isle where I found some plastic sleaves that you place negatives in... 1.99 for 10 pages of 7 sleaves... 70 slots for 2 bucks ... not bad... If you want single sleaves you'd have to cut them and ruin 3 sleaves per page for 40 sleaves for 2 dollars.. still not to bad..
So here are some pics of how my loose razors are being stored... also for 5.99 they have a box that these fit in perfectly... not a picture album.. i didn't want to flip them out of the sleaves when I turned a page.. its a white box with a magnetic clousure that would hold say 7 pages full of razors...
anyway if you have any other ideas or have developed or found something as good or better... please share here... I'm constantly looking for a better idea ... the boxes themselves sell for 3 to 10 dollars on ebay and are frequently not any good...
tnx so much ... hope this helps someone with the same issues..

Thanked: 293Good idea!
Just make sure those razors are dry or oiled when they go in there. Any trapped moisture might lead to oxidation.

Tnx, Olglethorpe,
I'll make sure to oil them before storage... right now I take them out so much to look at them that they aren't in there that long...new hasn't worn off yet!

That is clever. I've saved pretty much every razor coffin I've ever got (some have departed with their razors), so I store most of my razors in random coffins. The coffins fit nicely into those USPS boxes that are about ... I dunno how big, but roughly cubes. Those boxes, in turn, fit nicely pretty much anywhere. The only downside is if I'm looking for a particular razor, I may have to dig a bit. I label the USPS boxes, and put in slips of paper to tell me where the razors are from, what they need, or what stage of preparedness they are at.

Good idea. I would assume the negative sleeves would be acid free as well. That's probably a plus. Is there enough room in the boxes you mention for putting a few desiccant packets in, maybe, taped to the underside of the box top to absorb moisture?

.89 cent jewelry boxes with cotton
Yes.. there is plenty of room for that.... I'll send you a couple of pics in a hour or so after my camera battery recharges!! Boy this camera eats up the battery...
Any other storage ideas.... I'm going to cut one of these up to test the sleeves as singles.

Single Sleeves
Ok.. first... here's the .89cent box... nice size... cotton on the inside... bought at The Container Store....
Here are the sleeves cut for a single Razor... i was very impressed as to the thickness of this material... this isn't a super thin material and actually provides a fair amount of protection.... and it's cheap...There are 7 sleeves per page and 10 pages for 1.99 you loose 3 sleeves per page whenyou cut out the single sleeves so..... that's 4/pg or 40 per 1.99... wow...
Here's some pics ... I cut 3/16 inch from each side and then folded the pieces inside the sleeve... one side overlapping the monkey tail!.. There you go.... not bad....

So any other ideas or ways of solving this issue?? what does everyone else do?
