Default Will the real Dovo Ebony please stand up?

    Hi,

A friend of mine and I were comparing razors-- we both have a Dovo 5/8 round point with ebony scales. I bought mine about a year ago, he bought his a few months ago. As you can see, the actual blades are different. My razor (on top) has a larger tang, and has "Dovo Solingen" and "Made in Germany" etched on the tang, while my friend's razor (on bottom) has a thinner tang, and "Dovo Solingen/Made in Germany" looks painted, and is in a different font.

Are these both authentic Dovos? If so, when did they switch blade stamps?

    -Chief

I don't know if one is real and the other not, but I do know that Dovo changes their razors from time to time.

I bought the Dovo Silver Steel from SRD in December, and it looks just like the bottom one in the above pictures. So unless Lynn is selling Chinese knock-offs (and I don't think he is), then I'd say both of those razors are authentic Dovos.

But made in Germany by Chinese?

I'll just betcha the bottom one is newer, made by different hands with different time pressures. Old stock vs. new stock?

I think Dovo has been getting away from the stamping and going to the etching for awhile. I get them in where one box will be stamped and the other etched......

Chinese......lmao, I thought you were gonna say you thought it might be a tamahagane

I have also noticed a little difference in the blade washes too.

They still hone up and shave the same though.

    Have fun,

    Lynn

Just ride your unicorn to the end of the rainbow. There will be a clearing with a small lake. If you are worthy of such steel, the lady of the lake will emerge and present it to you.

From what I understand, the steel is smelted by dwarves deep in the earth and is different from other metals on a sub-atomic level.
