Default Does gold detail wear off?

Does gold detail eventually wear off a blade after a few stopping sessions?

    Normally no.
Some gold wash on the back might especially
with abrasive pasted strops and bad strokes but with a
correct stropping touch it should not.

    On a $20 blade -- who knows.
Tell us more about the razor in question.

As gold detail is normally at the blade centre it doesn't even touch the strop - unless you are doing it badly wrong! - so no, it shouldn't affect it. Normal wiping of the blade to dry it shouldn't have much affect either, not until years of use have gone by. The one thing that will destroy it almost instantly and permanently is most types of metal polish - usually one or two rubs id suggicient with the stuff so don't let it anywhere near!

If you can avoid gold wash for a working razor. The gold is very fragile and before too long you'll get some spots on your razor and need to use some metal polish and that's the end of that. Yes its pretty but not practical.
