    Luke Cadman registered the Bengall brand - he operated from about 1748 to 1906. The early Bengalls - like yours - did not have the band: I have seen an 1890s one exactly the same. Thomas Radley & Sons then took over the brand.

    I don't know about under-rated: every one I have had has been excellent and they seem to be quite sought-after by those in the know.

    thanks for the tips guys, good to know the history a bit. seems they are pretty common in oz, may just add to my collection when I go back!
