Thanked: 522MARSHES & SHEPHERDS
I was rummaging through my junk box and found an old
MARSHES & SHEPHERDS
PONDS WORKS
SHEFFIELD
blade that I've had for over forty years. I polished it enough to be able to read the stamp. There is a "crown" and the letters "V" and "R" under the crown.
I've never heard of this maker. Can anyone provide any info for it?
Thanks...............JERRY

MARSHES & SHEPHERD
Sheffield
Pond Works in 1840
1825 - 1850
The V <crown> R means it was made during the reign of Victoria which was from 1837-1901. That in itself doesn't really tell us much. Marshes and Shepperd went out of business in 1850. The Pond Works didn't come into existance until 1840 so your razor was made between 1840 and 1850. A picture would have been nice.

Thanked: 151Here Marshes and Shepherd Pond Works "Unspecified" 13/16 - Straight Razor Place Wiki one I sold about a year or so ago. It has the crown and lettering as you describe. They are great shavers and this one had some neat grape-vine like designs on the spine.
