    Default Difficulty honing a solingen

In a parallel thread in the honing forum, I related my success with honing a King MFG CO. razor (no idea where they originated from) but still had some micro chipping or serations(that were there from the start) however its shaveable. So I picked up this Luko Solingen razor I had got at the same antique store and looked at it through the loop and there are no serations or chips at all from the git go. Now both these razors were equally dull when I began, however I can not seem to get the solingen to take a shaving edge.Has anyone had similar issues? Any advice or suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.

Have you had success honing other razors? Yes, there are differences in steel, but in the end, what works for one razor will pretty much work for all razors. There is some "fine tuning" you can do, but either you can hone razors to give good shaves or you cannot. (I don't mean that to be rude or frank, I'm just wondering what your background/experience is.)

Try the Norton pyramid method as shown in the WIKI or go to Bart's site www.coticule.be and try the two coticule methods set forth therein.
There are several honing methods available to you and sooner or later, one of them will work for you...........

I believe the King Mfg. Co. razors were made in Indiana, PA.

The shank just says King Mfg. co with the word WARRANTED under that, and ST. LOUIS under that. There were several distributers in St. Louis back in the day, but don't think any where produced there. So I believe it's a different critter than king razor mfg co.
