    Default Hone Wear Damaging Strop

I have a spike point Henckels that when I strop, the area of hone wear at the end of the spine digs into the strop. Running my finger over the spine's tip I can feel the edge created by honing. What can I do to remedy this? Thank you for any input.

Never came across that before. My first guess would be to round it with some high grit sandpaper. But be very careful, if you sand into the hone wear, it will affect the geometry next time you hone.

I had a Fridour that I honed for a friend that did a number on my Strop. I couldn't tell what was causing the scratching, but it was near the point of the razor, so it probably was part of the spine that was the guilty party.
Luckily I used my old beat up Illinois strop before using my French shell strop.
After seeing the scratches it left on the Illinois strop, I decided to not use my shell strop.

What grit(s) would you suggest? I don't think it will take much to knock the edge off it.

+1 with Holli, and I used 1000 grit on a couple of Friodurs it doesn't take much sanding either you just need to smooth a rough spot not re-contour the spine....

Exactly what I figured. The edge isn't that bad, just enough to rough up my strop. Thank you all.

My Hart did this to one of my Kanoyama's. I dragged the corners of the spine across some 1k grit a few times and it solved the problem.

I had a razor with a decorative filed spine (factory job, not a custom) that did the same thing - had to tape it before stropping! Like Glen said, just knocking down or rounding the flat point on the spine should solve your problem.

I used 1000 grit 3M wet/dry followed up by 2000 grit for looks. Knocked it right down. Thank you everyone for your help!
