Legacy Shumate 'Pacific' in great shape!
I thought great-grandpa only had one razor still in existence and I had restored it six months ago. Today, my mother says that she was looking through some of her old things and found a razor that I might want...WOOT!!!
When I opened up the box, I was flabbergasted to find a Shumate Pacific 5/8 in great shape!...Well, except for a bevel-deep chip in the edge. I spent the afternoon working on it and trust me it didn't take much effort. All I had to do was to unpin it, knock off some active rust from the pivot, repin, and hone the chip out. I didn't mess with or polish the blade in any way...it's nice to live in an arid area where sometimes razors show up in awesome shape.
In my forensic research of the razor, it appears that this one was one of great-grandad's favorites since although it was in spectacular shape, it had a considerable amount of hone wear which means that he probably used this one for a long time. Additional research on my part shows that the razor is scaled in unwarped celluloid scales and dates from 1915-1920.

Talk about coincidence - one of the guys (straightouttaupstate) at the meet yesterday had that exact blade in those scales. Very nice razor, and I like the slightly thicker than full hollow grind too.

Legacy Schumate
Hello, red96ta:
Talk about hitting a goldmine with the Shumate. That's a worthy razor for a worthy gentleman, I am sure. Congratulations.
